Preble County is on the Ohio/Indiana Border. It is a county of predominantly small businesses and farms. The cost of living is low and the atmospere is small town. It has a new branch of Sinclair Community College. It is a beautiful county with Hueston Woods State Park in the southern corner. Eaton is the county seat and has a population of about 8000. Richmond, IN is 20 minutes away, Dayton is about 30 minutes away and Cincinnati is about 50 miles from Eaton.

Preble County District Library has seven branches and an administrative office which is also home to our genealogical research center and a computer lab/meeting room. Our library catalog serves four of the county school systems as well as one of the independent public libraries in our county. Our focus is community service through outreach and cooperation.

Library Director

Preble County District Library (population 43,000) is seeking a positive, community oriented individual who can work in a team environment to provide leadership and direction for the Preble County District Library (PCDL), managing a staff of 48/35.13 FTE, with a total operating budget of approximately $2.5 million. In addition to ensuring efficient operation of the Library, the Library Director is responsive to the changing needs of the community and develops/implements a strategic plan in conjunction with the Board of Trustees; sets, plans, develops and implements overall goals; develops, prepares and oversees the Library’s annual operating budget; and plans, allocates and monitors time, staff, equipment and other resources to ensure efficient delivery of quality services. The ideal candidate will be an effective team player and team leader; possess and demonstrate understanding of group dynamics; set high standards for personal and departmental performance; possess a strong participatory management style which values the contributions and diversity of dedicated and talented employees; and be an excellent communicator.

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Library/Information Science accredited by the American Library Association; five years of progressively responsible supervisory experience.

Salary and Benefits: $55,000 - $60,000; DOQ; Membership in the ALA and OLC membership; Medical, dental, and vision coverage; three week vacation benefits; and sick leave benefits.
