A Tour Guide to Your Family's History

Whether you’re just starting a family tree or looking to fill in a few hard-to-find branches, the Preble County District Library is the place for digging. Visitors from around the world have unlocked family histories at the Preble County Room.

Save time and money as the helpful staff at the Preble County Room guide you through the thousands of available resources. Staff and volunteers have spent countless hours compiling and organizing historic public records, family histories, and military histories from the Preble County area, as well as collecting history books from every corner of the state of Ohio.

When your search takes you out of the state, the Preble County Room has full access to national resources, including Ancestry.com, Heritage Quest, and many other sources, some of which can be accessed from anywhere. If you can’t make the trip to the Preble County Room, call or email for professional research assistance.

Collection and Donation Policy

The primary scope of the collection is Preble County history and information about its residents. Published or unpublished genealogies which include Preble County families are welcome. We will also accept materials on neighboring counties, Preble Countians and areas where they moved to after leaving Preble County. We do not accept artifacts and recommend they be donated to the Preble County Historical Society.

Once an item is accepted by the Preble County Room, it becomes the property of the Preble County District Library. Materials are never removed from the collection except for repair, replacement, or preservation. We are willing to make copies of unpublished materials, works with expired copyrights, documents and photographs and return the originals to the owner.

Donations are very much appreciated and are tax deductible. A donation letter will be sent upon request by the donator. The value of the donation is determined by the donor.
