Preble County District Library

Patrons Exempt from Fines and Fees Policy

As a courtesy to the Board of Trustees and employees of the Preble County District Libraries fines and borrowing fees will be waived while serving a Board of Trustees term or employed by the library only. These patrons will be identified by a user category recognized as fine and fee exempt on the online system.

As a courtesy to the educators, fines will be waived on all print materials borrowed for use in the classroom or in other learning environments. An Educator Card allows up to 75 items/card. This card is not to be used for personal items. Misuse of the educator card will result in the removal of this privilege. Fines will be waived for overdue materials that are returned within 9 weeks. If materials are not returned within 9 weeks, fines will begin accruing. This is necessary because the library materials used by educators tend to be in high demand. Staff has the option of over-riding this limit for responsible patrons.

To obtain an Educator Card, a teacher or homeschooling parent must provide proof that they are still an educator in good standing. This can be an up to date school roster, a certificate from a homeschooling organization, or the letter of intent from the Superintendent releasing the child from compulsory education. An exception would be made only if the librarian can validate for the teacher personally.

Currently employed Staff are also free from overdue fines. Staff must adhere to all other borrowing policies of the library.

In recognition of their contribution to our library, Staff who have worked twenty-five years or more, may have a life-time Staff Library Card that waives overdue fines. The card will be called the Thompson Card in recognition of Mary Ellen Thompson.

Overdue fines for Mentally Retarded adults will be waived on a case-by-case basis with the attending Branch Librarian.

An Amnesty Week will be held subject to the Board's review at a date to be decided by the Administrative Team. Librarians cannot remove the $10.00 collection fee.
