Preble County District Library

Internet Offense Guidelines

Minors:

  1. NO ONE under 18 who does not have parental/guardian permission on file or has their parent or guardian with them may use the Internet computers. Failure to secure permission puts the library at risk.
  2. Anyone under 18 who has their parent or guardian with them and who displays inappropriate screens "with intent," using browser e-mail, in chat, or outside the public use area of the computer system will be asked to remove those screens from public view. Our policy should be discussed with the adult present.
  3. Anyone under 18 who has permission on file and who displays inappropriate screens "with intent," using browser e-mail, in chat or outside the public use area of the computer system will be asked one time to remove those screens from public view. A second offense during that day will result in lose of Internet privileges for 1 month and a notation made upon their patron record about the date they may again begin using the Internet. When the user regains rights after 1 month and if another offense occurs, they will lose their rights for I year and a letter will be mailed to their parents. A notation made upon their patron record about the date they may again begin using the Internet.
  4. The parent or guardian of anyone under 18 who uses and maliciously breaks the library's computer or it's peripherals will be responsible for the cost to repair or replace the broken piece(s).
